Computer Repairs Adelaide
What is probably wrong with it. Who to call. I do not do hands-on repairs, so this page will not try to sell you one.
Who I send people to
I build websites, apps and business systems. I am not set up for hands-on computer work. Pretending otherwise to win a job helps nobody.
So for anything that needs a technician in front of you, hardware on a bench, a machine that will not start, a virus clean-up or a security problem, I point people at Computer Servicing in Goodwood. Trading since 2006. They publish their pricing rather than making you ring around.
Go to Computer ServicingMost computer problems are not hardware
A slow machine is usually a full drive, too much loading at startup, a failing disk or something running that should not be. Worth knowing before anyone tells you to buy a new computer.
Two things worth asking whoever looks at it. What is actually causing this, in plain English. And what will it cost, before you start. Anyone who will not answer both is not the right person.
And if the honest answer is that a nine-year-old laptop is not worth another dollar, a good technician tells you that rather than billing you to find out.
What it usually turns out to be
- A drive that is nearly full, so nothing has room to work
- Too many programs loading at startup
- A failing hard disk, usually with warning signs first
- Malware, hijacked browsers and endless pop-ups
- Overheating from dust, which throttles everything
- An old mechanical drive that should have been an SSD years ago
- Wifi or NBN faults getting blamed on the computer
- A backup everyone assumed was running, that was not
When it is not the computer, it is the system
Plenty of what gets called a computer problem is really a business problem. Bookings arriving as emails nobody actions. A spreadsheet three people edit and none of them trust. Software you rent every month that still does not do the one thing you need.
That is the work I do. Websites, custom apps, booking and job management systems, POS and software integrations, plus the marketing that feeds them.
Questions People Ask
Who should I call for computer repairs in Adelaide?
For hands-on work, a machine that will not start, hardware, virus clean-ups or anything needing a technician in front of you, I send people to Computer Servicing in Goodwood. They have been at it since 2006. I do not do hands-on repairs myself, so I would rather point you at someone who does it properly than take the job.
How much do computer repairs cost in Adelaide?
Expect an hourly rate rather than a flat fee, because the honest answer depends on what is actually wrong. Ask for a likely cost before anyone starts. Be wary of anyone who will not give you one.
My computer is really slow. What is usually causing it?
Rarely the hardware. It is normally startup programs, a drive that is nearly full, a failing hard disk or something unwanted running in the background. A good technician checks all of that before suggesting you buy anything.
Can files be recovered from a computer that will not turn on?
Often yes. If the drive still spins up, files can usually be pulled off even when the machine will not boot. Stop using it and get it looked at, because continuing to run a failing drive is what turns recoverable into unrecoverable.
Is it worth repairing an old computer?
Sometimes not. Past about seven or eight years the money often goes further on a replacement than on parts. A straight answer either way is worth more than a quote, so ask whoever looks at it to tell you honestly.
What does Joel the Nerd do, then?
I build the systems businesses run on: websites, custom apps, booking and job management, POS and software integrations, plus the digital marketing that feeds them. If the problem is a business system rather than a broken laptop, that is my work.
