Built From Scratch: How Field One Mobile Mechanical Started Showing Up in Local Search

The brief: a mobile mechanic with no website at all

Field One Mobile Mechanical is a Strathalbyn operator who does something most workshops cannot. They come to you. On-site fleet servicing at your yard, your depot or your job site, so the trucks and machines that earn the money are not sitting on a hoist across town for half a day.

The work was already good. The phone was already ringing through word of mouth. What was missing was an online presence of any kind. No website, no Google footprint, nothing for a fleet manager to find when they searched at seven in the morning with two utes off the road. If a customer did not already have the number, Field One did not exist to them. Field One needed to be findable. It needed the online version to feel as switched on as the service itself.

The positioning: downtime is the enemy

Before a single page got built, we worked out what Field One actually sells. It is not spanners. It is uptime. A fleet that keeps moving. The whole site got built around one idea: on-site fleet servicing for the businesses that cannot afford downtime.

That line does the heavy lifting on the homepage because it speaks to the person making the decision. A fleet owner does not care about the brand of socket set. They care that a workshop booking means a vehicle off the road, a tow bill and a driver standing around. Field One removes all three by turning up where the vehicles already are.

The brand: yellow and ink, built for the side of the road

The look had to read fast and read on a phone in daylight. We landed on a strong safety yellow against a deep ink navy. High contrast, legible and honest to the trade without falling back on the tired red-and-black mechanic cliché. Manrope for the headings gives it a modern, confident edge. Source Sans for the body keeps everything calm and easy to read.

No fake badges, no stock-photo handshakes, no decorative noise. Just a clear brand that looks like a real operator who shows up and gets it done.

The build: five pages that answer the real questions

The site is five pages and every one of them earns its place:

  • Home sets the positioning and gets the phone number and job form above the fold.
  • Services spells out all the work in plain terms so a fleet manager knows in ten seconds whether Field One covers their gear.
  • Service area shows the Greater Adelaide reach with a real Google map and the regions covered, so nobody wastes a call asking if Field One travels to them.
  • About carries the owner story and how the on-site model actually works, which is the trust piece.
  • Book gives a simple form plus a clear list of what to send so a quote can come back fast.

The form runs on the site itself and lands straight in the inbox, with a backup log so no enquiry ever gets lost if an email hiccups. Mobile gets a sticky bottom bar with Call and Send job, because a tradie reaching for this on a phone should never have to hunt for the button.

Local SEO from day one

This is the part that takes a brand-new business from invisible to findable. From launch we put in the foundations that local search actually rewards:

  • LocalBusiness and AutomotiveBusiness schema on every page so Google understands what Field One does, where it works and how to reach it.
  • Page titles and descriptions written for the searches that bring in fleet work, not vanity terms.
  • A clean URL structure, a working sitemap and proper indexing so Google can read the whole site without tripping.
  • A service area built around the suburbs and regions that matter, from Strathalbyn out across Greater Adelaide and the Fleurieu.

A from-scratch site does not rank overnight. But built right, it starts earning trust with search engines the day it goes live instead of fighting an old broken setup the whole way.

The result: showing up where it counts

Field One went from no online presence at all to a fast, clear, mobile-first website that is now turning up in local searches and pulling in organic visits. The people who needed an on-site fleet mechanic and did not have the number can finally find one. That is the whole job. Take a business that was invisible online and make it the obvious answer when someone nearby goes looking.

Why this matters for any local trade

Plenty of good operators run for years on referrals alone. It works right up until the day it does not. A quiet month, a big customer who moves on, a competitor who turns up first on Google. Word of mouth is brilliant, but it is fragile on its own.

A simple site built on the right foundations is the safety net. It catches the searches your referrals never reach. For a mobile business especially, where there is no shopfront for anyone to walk past, the website is the shopfront. It has to do the job.

See the build

The full case study sits in the Field One portfolio entry. If you run a local trade or a mobile service and your online presence does not match the quality of the work, the same approach applies. Clear positioning first, then a site built around it, then the local SEO foundations that make you findable.
